Ghost Towns

Gold an Silver were discovered in the desert in Stateline Canyon in 1894 and soon a town sprung up. Then in 1896 the Ophir mine was discovered and a large population boom took place. By 1903 there were approximately 300 peple living here and there were many general stores. But as with most mining towns the ore started to play out around 1910 and by 1918 there were only 18 people left. Minor mining activity has continued in the area ever since.
