Please be patient -- this PDF file will take a minute to download and open, Deep limestone fissures and cracks near the canal.
There is a lot of neat looking geology on this trip with the fissures and large cracks in the limestone. Bud also gives us some of the interesting historic facts about this canal and the area in general. This would be a very short and easy trip with some really rewarding scenery!
One of the many vistas of Zion National Park on this trip.
Trip to view the historic remains of the La Verkin canal, Hurricane canal, Virgin River and some great vistas of Zion National Park. The tunnel and canal were first used in April of 1891. They said it couldn't be done. Very interesting history accompanies this trip publication, like the warm mineral springs still available today in La Verkin, and the deep fissures in the limestone bedrock. Photos, maps and GPX tracks provided.
