This trip in the desert is brought to us by Bill Algeyer of JK Southwest. The trip leaves Interstate I-15 at the Primm Casino next to the Nevada, California State Line in San Bernardino County, CA. The solar power plant is a place of much controversy among desert users. It is, in our opinion, an eyesore and costs too much to operate to make it profitable. But we have to go past this eyesore to get to the Colosseum Mine.

There are numerous other mines in the area. The Colosseum mine is located in the Clark Mountain mining district 45 air miles Southwest of Las Vegas. This was a gold and silver mine with 2 really big open pits. Other metals found here include: Electrum, Chalcopyrite and Galena. Mining exploration here began in the late 1860's. 3.5 million dollars worth of silver was produced in the late 1800's.
