This is a great way to increase horsepower, torque and extend the life of your engine. This is a small expense with a large return. We've used one of these systems for over 10 years now and it really works great! Nice people to deal with!
Why would you want a filter that you have to clean and then oil, in place of a dry filter. Well things have changed, what's new! You can still get the oiled filter and now you can also get a dry filter, similar to the one below, that is washable and re-usable. And they stop the dust too! (See below).  Just look at the engine compartment after a run in the desert!
aFe POWER air filter
Standard OEM filters are dry and won't stop the fine dust you see in the photo above. Is this good for your engine? NO! There are a lot of different brands on the market, and Toyota, for example, choose to use aFe POWER as their supplier for their "cold air intake filters". aFe POWER makes these oiled filters for all off road vehicles! HERE is a link to their filter for a 2007-09 FJ Cruiser. If you have a Jeep HERE is a link. They also sell the cleaner, oil and extra filters if you look under the tab for ADD-ONS/PACKAGES. See below for a new type of dry filter.
Something else to consider is a filter cover, called a "pre-charger" or "pre-filter". They work great for stopping a lot of the dirt that gets into the air filter box. How do we know this really works? Numerous times we've checked the inside of the cold air intake tube (shown below) that is between the filter and the engine. It's always been clean - meaning the dirt and dust is not getting past the filter. Below is what a complete oiled kit looks like for the 07-09 Toyota FJ Cruiser.Buy it on AMAZON HERE
