In The Desert

This top photo says it all. These people were deathly afraid to venture into Mexico -- now look at them! Algodones is still one of the best and safest border towns in Mexico. These photos were taken on one of our many day trips into Mexico and it's in the desert, just in another country. Being South of the Border here is a blast. They do make great drinks here too! Things can change at any time so check with someone before going.
As you can see there are a lot of Americans here in the desert at Algodones enjoying themselves on one of their own day trips. This is a very colorful place, that's putting it mildly! They had some great Mexican food in the Plaza's here too.
So what else can you do here? That's the nice thing about being in the desert -- there's always something going on; like a free band and dance floor in the Plaza in Algodones, Mexico. One of the reasons for putting day trips of Algodones up here is so you could learn something about the nice towns in Mexico.
Another reason that people (winter visitors) take day trips to Algodones is for their medicinal supplies. Here's one of the many Pharmacies in Algodones, Mexico. This is one of the busiest towns in the desert; at least in the Winter. Temperatures here in the Yuma, Arizona area are balmy and warm all through most of the Winter months. Most day trips to Algodones are from the Yuma, Wellton area.

These young men are really quite good artists. They're painting plates, pictures, and they'll even paint your spare tire cover for you. Some of their designs are amazing. The way they do the paintings is also unique. Using matches, match book covers, paper, and spray cans for artist tools. Keep reading and you'll see why this is one of the day trips you should take.
How about a hat for your next day trips in the desert? It doesn't matter what kind of hat, belt, wallet, or purse you want; you can find it here in Algodones, Mexico. And the prices are resonable and you can find some good quality merchandise.
On our day trips to Algodones, Mexico we've bought more than our share of Ironwood pieces. They are made here in a factory in the back of the town. And most are finished right here in the stores. They are sanded, then polished with shoe polish! Some are exquisite pieces!
Nick-nacks anyone? We're not showing all the other leather shops and stores that are here in Algodones, Mexico. There are hundreds of places to shop.

This is certainly one of the neatest day trips; and when locals in Yuma have company this is one of the first places they bring them.
