In The Desert
Parker Dam, California
Arvin & Mable (pictured here) have probably spent more time chasing down off-road adventures and travel than anyone. This is one of Arvin & Mable's Day Trip adventures!
Just back from this trip on the west side of the Colorado River across from Parker, Arizona and the Parker Dam -- Arvin said this a great trip and everyone should see this area in the desert. Bowmans Wash was really neat and then Horse's Head Canyon was a plus. A neat hike was up to the Angel Monument included and (marked on the map).

The map above came from an unknown source and was hand drawn. This is how you find those neat adventures in the desert. This was passed along from a camper in the area, so they decided to take a look at the area. The gentleman who had the map told them to look for the trail up onto a very high hill to find the Angel Monument. Apparently a young ATV rider was killed in this area and the parents made a monument complete with stone seats and they keep it in nice shape to comemorate their sons death here. To look at the map there are a lot of other interesting things to see here also. Including a couple of caves, mines, old building foundations, and maybe some crystals. The main road up through Horse's Head Canyon is blocked by a big rock in the middle of the road before you get to the reservoir, but turning around and going back is part of the adventure. Horse's Head Peak -- seen here, can only be seen on the way back out of the wash going southeast. Looks like a clydesdale. It actually looks like someone carved it into the side of the mountain. Now there are a lot of other interesting places to be seen here and a trip to this area would definitely be worth the time. Arvin says there are some really picturesque narrow canyons with steep walls.
If you have to stay in the area there are quite a few motels and one we usually stay in is the Bluewater Casino in Parker right on the Colorado River. There are a lot of camping and RV spots all along the river and at the Bluewater Casino.
Arvin & Mable said to have fun!
