Enterprise, St. George, Utah

There are a some very nice campsites along the way if you decide to go and spend a night back in the mountains. There is one section of this daytrip that Dan & Lynn went back to photograph, the the Emma / Goldstrike Mine. We were too busy just navigating the small rough road with no turnaround. Be advised this road is not for the faint of heart. It is scary in places and it's too long, narrow, and rough to back out. An ATV would be a better choice for that part of the daytrip.

Video, Slideshow

As far as scenery goes, you'll have a hard time finding any place in the desert southwest and in the adjacent mountains that has more to look at and photograph. There are a lot of side roads that we didn't have the time to explore. A neat area to spend a weekend camping and exploring.
                     Have fun.
There is one stretch of of gravel / dirt road on this daytrip in the desert that we did not photograph or video tape because of the dusty conditions we encountered. Probably the worst we've ever seen anywhere in the desert. It is a 10 mile stretch that took 19 minutes to complete because of the many times we were forced to come to a complete stop. You couldn't see the road ahead of you at all. It's a section between the settlement of Motoqua to the Legacy Loop Highway, which is the main road to Gunlock from St. George. See the enlarged map for more detail. If you click the camera button it will give a view of the road into the mine and the road is highlighted in yellow. Dan & Lynn went on ATV's to get this photo and see what the other roads were like, really bad!

This trip does by-pass all the main roads to St. George, Utah from Enterprise, Utah and takes the long route in the mountains and in the desert. This is a very scenic daytrip with a lot of neat rock formations. It is also very isolated in the mountains. For example, we never saw one other person or vehicle during the whole trip from Enterprise to the settlement of Motoqua. Motoqua is an old Mormon settlement that still has a few inhabitants.
