Desert Map

At in the desert our objective is to give you samples of the quality of the Arizona maps available from GPS File Depot. We downloaded the Arizona map to see how if fared compared to the MapSource 2008 topo map. It is very similar to the Desert Southwest map examples shown on Page 1.. For download links, see the bottom of the page.
Here are two examples of the topography detail on both the maps in the Trigo Mts. area of Southwestern Arizona. The Red Cloud Mine is shown near the center of the map. The Colorado River is just to the west of this area.

The MapSource map lacks a lot of topography detail compared to the Arizona topo map from GPS File Depot. Also you'll notice the light tan area depicting the private property (patented claims) of the Red Cloud Mine. This is not shown on the Garmin MapSource topo.
Once again this is a much better topography map with added detail in both the remote areas and in the more populated areas. Definitely worth looking at. This map is also a free download. See the link below.
Here's a screen capture of the MapSource program showing all 5 of the topo maps we've downloaded. You can load as many maps as you want for different states into the MapSource program and with just one click you can easily switch maps systems. Really nice add-on.

The people at the GPS File Depot are very helpful, so don't overlook their forum (registration is free). If you had to buy these maps they could be very expensive, so don't hesitate to DONATE to their site! They have many links on the site for installing and using these maps, and even building them if you choose to do so.
