Anza Borrego State Park, California

Larry Schaibley Editor
Quite a few years ago I heard about a really neat off-road trip in the desert in the Anza Borrego State Park. I was told there was a challenging hill you could go down and some other obstacles that would make the trip interesting. Well now the guys from over in Yuma, Arizona (5 of them, with Jeeps) got together and made this run. From the photos they took it's obvious they had a great time. I was told that it was a really long day and that they saw some other off-roaders over in the Park. Including some on Motorcycles.
It was a cool morning in Yuma and in Anza Borrego there was still a little snow in the higher passes. In the afternoon it got pretty windy. This trip would make a great weekend get away. They left Yuma at 6 am. and got home at 7:30 pm. There were a lot of people hiking in the park and other off-roaders around. Jason Sackrider was the trail leader and he carried all the extra fuel. Here's a slideshow of most of the trip.
I've always wondered what this trip would be like. Now thanks to the guys from Yuma you can see what some of the area is like. Looks like a neat trip. If you think you might like to try this, then download the GPS track and look the area over on Google Earth or in your topo software. Thanks to Perry Marchant for giving us the photos and GPS track.

Garmin Topo Track

Garmin Topo track, shown here in "Yellow" is exactly where the trip took place. Starting at the little town of Ocotillo just off of Interstate 8.
