   Nevada's first explorers were trappers and traders, including Jedediah Smith, when they first entered Nevada in 1820. Later, John C. Fremont and Kit Carson explored the Great Basin. The first permanent settlement was a Mormon trading post near what is now Genoa. It is the driest state in the US. Best places to visit in the desert are as follows: Las Vegas, Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam, Cathedral State Park, Laughlin.
