New Mexico's first explorer was Francisco de Coronado a Spaniard the came searching for gold in 1540 to 1542. New Mexico is a leader in output of uranium, petroleum, natural gas, copper, gold sinc, and lead.  New Mexico's Western half is mountainous and in places remote. It's Eastern Half is desert, plains and sand dunes. Take a trip to Western New Mexico.
