25th Annual St. Patricks Day Poker Run
This year's Poker Run was approximately a 70 mile off road course. The sign in tent and start of the run is on Shea Road, in Parker, Arizona. Rain or shine the poker run is a go. Speed is not a factor, only getting your cards and the best hand. Next year you can contact Rodnev who runs the Poker Run at 1-928-669-6104 for more information.
The photos included here are from the run last year. The only difference being the length of the course. Last year it was over 93 miles and there were over 300 entries. This year the number of entries was down a little at 125, and length of the course was 70 miles. It was still fun for almost everybody. EXCEPT one young man who joined the run and shouldn't have been there. Motorcycles (dirt bikes) are not allowed because of insurance reasons and this young man was hurt pretty badly, with a broken arm and collar bone. He had to be airlifted out. Shame but I guess the insurance companies know what their doing. Hope he's doing alright!
Rod always lays the course out and has it well marked. The cards are sometimes a little hidden in boxes, like the one stop where you had to go into a cave to get them after a short walk up a canyon. But this makes the run more interesting and fun. Some of the off road course is a little challenging, but not to the point that anyone wasn't able to make it. The fun places made the run --- well fun! It's quite an experience if you've never been in a Poker Run like this. It can also be rewarding if you win. And it included free hot dogs and beer. I'm not sure they still do that, but you can always ask when you call before St. Patricks Day next year. Don't miss this, it's a blast, and you can always stay at the Blue Water Casino in Parker or just camp out in your camper, motorhome, or tent right next to the sign-in area.
