National Sand DragsMarch 19 - 21st, 2010 Dome Valley, Arizona
Back to
This year, because of bad weather in southern California, the National Sand Drags moved to the Dome Valley Raceway. This gives a lot of locals and winter visitors to the Yuma area a chance to experience this big event. The Dome Valley Raceway is located in very nice farming area in Dome Valley, (See the map below.)
We offered to help photograph the event for the owners Ernesto & Art Juarez. They have a very nice sand drag track that's open almost all year for local events. (See our events page for more info as it becomes available.) Friday is mostly qualifying/practice runs, with more of the same on Saturday. The finals and awards ceremonies are on Sunday. You really should come over and witness this event, especially if you've never experienced the sand drags before.
When 7,000 hp sand rails thunder by you'll know it. The ground vibrates and the sounds and sights are amazing. Here is a very small video of one of the top fuel dragsters coming off the line. These rails were hitting 185 miles an hour in a 1/8 of a mile in 2.3 seconds!

Saturday's Qualifying Runs
Another exciting day at the races! A beautiful Arizona day with more competitive runs, and more people! And really good burritos! Here's another set of photos from Saturday's runs -----
Here's a short video Linda shot at the qualifying runs on Saturday of a top fuel dragster. This whole event was sponsored by Alexander Toyota, and Line-X bed liners.
The race finals and awards ceremony is on Sunday. Hope you didn't miss this.
