Back to Lost Dutchman Mine, ArizonaSuperstition Mountains
If your going to the Superstion Mountains to find the Lost Duchman Mine - well good luck! We've photogaphed the Peralta Stones and my personal opion of them is -- they're replicas or fakes. But don't let this stop you from to going the Museum in Apache Junction as they have a large collections of relics from the old days, including Indian relics, and all the books you'll ever want to read about the Lost Dutchman Mine.
Right next to the museum is an old barn that's going to be part of the museum in the future. Stop to see if it's open? Also there is an old church that's kinda neat too! The start of this trip in the desert is on Rt. 88 and continues up to Tortilla Flat.
There is a pretty big complex here that show cases the old Goldfield Mine from the late 1800's. It's always busy so there is probably something worth seeing here. We didn't stop so we don't know what's going on there. Check it out.
The mountains here are really pretty and colorful. Different mineralization, and moss covering gives them their distinct color. Also a lot of green growth here in the desert.
Last stop for us was Tortilla Flat. Nice place to get a cool one and maybe something to eat as well. This place has been in business for a long time. Now if you keep going you can go up Rt. 88 to Roosevelt Lake and beyond. So don't stop here! People have looked for the Lost Duchman Mine for millenium, maybe someone will get lucky, but it's doubtfull. Long term hunters will dissagree; I say show me the gold.
Enjoy the trip.......
The marina had a lot of boats in it. And it looks like a nice place to put your boat in. The water look clean and clear, and the marina looks to be a pretty up to date facility. There are other public loading ramps available also. Day trips here would be great for fishing.
Canyon Lake looks to be a popular place for boaters and fisherman. It is a beautiful lake and would be a nice to place to put your boat in for a weekend of fun. A lot of side canyons to explore here too.
This is an inter-active Wikimapia Satellite Map. You can zoom in / out and drag the map to scroll. Mouse over the map. Try it! Shown here - Superstition Mountains. |
